You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine.' So that was nice.

Default Ikea Fira Drawers

The top of our microwave has become the junk collection centre of the house. We have an old basket there with everything from keys, change, shopping dockets and bills. So the last time I went to Ikea, I bought a set of Fira drawers for about $24.99.
This is what I got when I opened the box:

After throwing the instructions out as they confused me more than anything, I had this after about 30 mins:

I painted them inside and out with Kaiser colour Crafters Acrylic Paint in Mauve. I used 3 tubes (75ml retailing at Spotlight for $2.99. Unfortunately they no longer stock the bigger bottles). After the first coat was dried (thanks to the heat it didn't take more than 30 mins), I put another coat on as the raw wood soaks up a lot of the paint.

I measured the drawers and made clipping masks in Photoshop Elements for the patterned papers for the drawers, using Lina's Funky Love Rocks kit (LDrag Designs). Then I sized some of the elements and printed the pages on Whisper White Cardstock (Stampin' Up).

As my printer isn't big enough to print 12x12 sheets, I used two pieces of patterned paper with a gap down the middle for the two long drawers. For the three smaller drawers, I used a 1 1/4 inch circle punch to punch around the finger holes. I coated four of the small flowers in Crystal Effects (Stampin' Up) to give them a shiny epoxy sticker effect and attached them to the two longer drawers on pop up dots for extra dimension.

I then stuck the flowers and hearts on the top and sides of the box using double sided tape.

As the box is in the kitchen area, I wanted to seal it so it could be wiped down, so I coated the whole thing in Mod Podge. Mod Podge is a water based sealer, glue and finish and I used the matte finish, which gives it a really nice look without being too shiny.

So here is the top of my microwave before ( I admit I did give it a little clean up before taking the photo )

And here is the after!

Watch this space, as I have a pen holder to decorate in the same colours, but I need more paint!

Without my two.. ahem..."helpers" it only took me about 25 mins to cut out all the flowers!! I left that part for when they'd gone for a nap!
