You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine.' So that was nice.

Default Hybrid Jigsaw Puzzle

Hello and welcome to Hybrid Happy for August!

How can it be August already? That means there is only five months to Christmas!!
Which means it's a good time to start your hybrid Christmas projects!!

I have made this hybrid jigsaw puzzle for my friend's son Billy.

Physical Supplies
Kaiser scrapbook wooden jigsaw puzzle ($3.99 AUD from Spotlight)
White cardstock
Paint/paintbrush
Mod Podge or similar to seal it
Paper trimmer
Craft knife
Double sided tape

Digital Supplies
Ahoy! by Scrappin' Mint, our featured designer this month.

Using Photoshop Elements 6.0, I made a 20cm x 20cm layout, complete with shadowing. I printed it on white A4 cardstock and allowed it a good 24 hours to dry. Because of the way I cut it out, I wanted to be sure the ink was completely dry to avoid tearing the cardstock.

I cut out the layout using a paper trimmer and placed the jigsaw on the back of the cardstock. I used a pencil to make note on the back of the puzzle which piece went where (i.e upper left, bottom right) as it would be reversed after I cut it. Leaving one piece of the puzzle on the cardstock, I held it firmly and cut around the piece with a craft knife. Make sure your knife is sharp, otherwise the cardstock may tear as you go around the round bits (anyone know what those sticky out bits of a puzzle are called?? )

I then repeated the process for two more pieces of the puzzle, all going well the last one will be the right size!

I painted the jigsaw pieces with Kaiser Acrylic Paint in Scarlett - a great bright red. I did two coats as I find the wood sucks up a lot of the first coat.

Once the paint dried, I used a rather generous amount of double sided tape to adhere the cardstock cutouts onto the jigsaw pieces. I then painted the whole lot with three coats of Mod Podge to give it a really good seal. (Billy is two and a half, so three coats of Mod Podge should withstand a bit of chewing! )

You may find that with the paint and the Mod Podge that it is hard to fit the puzzle together - if so, sand off any obvious lumps and bumps of paint or sealer, and try using some beeswax to provide a bit of lubrication.

And the finished puzzle:

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in this thread. And if I have inspired you, I would love to see your take on this project!! Be sure to post a link here so I can leave you some love!!

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.
